They've finally done it.
The manuals are telling us
to which side of a trout
we should cast.
Yes, even the trout
are losing their directness,
growing sinister
according to what pollutants
are or aren't in the water.
Next, they'll be
having us believe
that trout network,
that through intermittent bursts
of high-pitched chirps,
they boss each other around,
deploy territorial imperatives.
But freedom and dignity aside
we know that a trouts brain
resembles a miniature kazoo,
and have seen enough to agree
that most trout will
rise to a marshmallow
straight on.
