Endorphin High

Back in the Fifties, when I was a child,
'Neath the mountains and trees and the sky, I ran wild.
When I try to recapture that thrill long gone by,
My shrink tells me it was an endorphin high.

Chorus
Endorphin high, endorphin high,
Sweet Jesus, give me an endorphin high.
When I try to recapture that thrill long gone by,
My shrink tells me it was an endorphin high.

Then in the Sixties, my room mate said, "Here,
Try some of this Panama red with some beer,
But it made me eat Twinkies and gave me red eyes.
It just couldn't compare to an endorphin high.

Chorus

Then in the Seventies, life lost its thrill
When this hippie said, "Here, eat this big purple pill."
Though it made me see God, and I thought I could fly,
It weren't nothin' next to an endorphin high.

(revised chorus) Endorphin high, endorphin high,
Sweet Jesus give me an endorphin high.
Now I'm too fat to jog and too young to die,
So sweet Jesus, give me an endorphin high.

In the Eighties I changed to a bottom line jerk.
I wore a suit and white collar to work.
Financially wealthy but spiritually broke,
I had a heart full of pain and a nose full of coke.

Chorus (revised)

When the millennium comes, I'm gonna stand on a hill
While harmonic convergences give me a thrill,
And I'll watch cosmic entities plunge from the sky.
Bet they won't hold a candle to an endorphin high.

Chorus
