Gil Finn & Gearman Fly Fishing Slang Definitions

A Fishing Nag instructs the other guy how to fly fish in a nonstop tirade of repetitive commands. Here's an example:

"No, No, NO!, Mend, Mend Again, Mend AGAIN!, Twitch it, Twitch it, Twitch It, Mend it, Mend it, Cast Again, No Further Right, Mend it, Let it sink, Good, Good, Mend Again, Mend Again, Mend Again......"

Urban Fly Fishing includes any fishing spot near a highway, bridge, neighborhood, or downtown location where privacy and scenery are NOT the priority.  A perfect example is directly underneath interstate bridges where loud echoes and noises from trucks and cars are a bonus.

Punting means losing a fish under any circumstance. It's an especially bad "Punt" if you hook the fish, get a visual and see that it's a really big one, and then lose it.

An Audible is a scream of disappointment heard from a fisherman when a fish attacks but misses his streamer or dry fly.  This counts as a "Punt" if the fish makes contact. Keeping track of "Audibles" can be valuable on slow days.

A Fake Audible is a fake scream intended to fool nearby fishermen into thinking you just missed a fish.

CPM (Casts Per Minute) the number of casts made per minute while streamer fishing from a drift boat. There are times when a high CPM rate is productive - especially when trying to entice big fish lurking underneath the river banks edge.

Barney - a beginner fly-fisherman in need of training.

Snag Removal Technique is a skill perfected by only the best fly fisherman.
One technique is to jiggle the fly-rod so it sends waves down the line causing the fly and leader to unwrap from a tree branch. Another is throwing a loop that removes the fly backwards from a rock or log in the water.
